I see behaviour as a form of communication. I also see behaviour management as a way of teaching skills as opposed to controlling behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The guiding principles I follow are to create respectful and responsive relationships with the children. There should be consistency and clear expectation. I use developmentally appropriate strategies. I focus on prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Behaviour Guidance Strategies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preventative Strategies<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clear routines and transitions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visual schedules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An engaging, play-based environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offering choices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Setting clear expectations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teaching Social Skills<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turn-taking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emotional regulation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conflict resolution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using words to express feelings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In-the-Moment Strategies<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Redirection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Positive reinforcement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modeling appropriate behaviour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Problem-solving with children<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using a calm voice and body language<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conflict Resolution<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stay calm and ensure everyone is safe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acknowledge the children\u2019s feelings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Describe the problem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage children to share their version of what\u2019s happening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work together to find a solution<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Role of the Educator<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The role of the educator is to observe and guide the children. We are there to model appropriate behaviours, co-regulate with the children, and help support their independence in working through problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Family Collaboration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Working with families is essential.
